MariaDB 5.2 includes several patches, fixes, and enhancements that for one reason or another were not able to be added to the MariaDB 5.1 series. These include:
- User statistics patch from Percona
- Virtual columns
- A mysqlbinlog option to change the used database. MWL:36
- Maria storage engine group commit.
- A backport of libservices from MySQL 6.0. MWL:98
- Enhancements for plugin authors, including:
- Segmented Key Cache for MyISAM. MWL:85
- The OQGRAPH storage engine.
- The Sphinx storage engine.
- Various bug and stability fixes.

Planned features for MariaDB 5.2
No major new features are planned for MariaDB 5.2. Future versions of 5.2 will only focus on stability improvements and bug fixes.
